ABOUT
Lauren Midwinter is a freelance director and writer working across film and commercials. Her performance-led, socially conscious storytelling often explores bold subject matter through a sensitive, curious lens.
Her performer-centric approach is evident in Glimpses, which was nominated for the British Arrows Award for Best Director and for SHOTS Ad of the Year, and was screened at the BAFTA-qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival, among others. Her latest short film, Tailing, which was shortlisted for a Kinsale Shark Award and screened at the This Is England Festival, was released nationally in partnership with Our Streets Now. The film has been praised for its nuanced and subversive portrayal of public sexual harassment.
In television, Lauren has worked across both scripted and factual formats. She shadowed Emmy-winning director Adam Randall on Slow Horses (Apple TV+ / See-Saw Films), gaining experience in high-end episodic drama, and directed the six-part documentary series The Food Odyssey (UKTV / Time Inc.).
Despite being dyslexic, writing has always accompanied her directing career. She has worked in writers’ rooms and is currently developing her first feature film. She was selected for the BFI Outline Scheme and the Victoria Wood Foundation’s Watersprite Hubs Scripted cohort, and is a member of BAFTA Connect.
Her work has screened internationally and across major online platforms, and her commercial clients include Samsung, the NHS, and Google.
Like any self-respecting Midlander, you'll usually find her having a brew.
